Do you need a dementia friendly bathroom?
Through a generous donation from our dementia champions, John Quinn and Glenys Petrie, we have a limited number of Bunnings vouchers to help people living with dementia make their bathroom more dementia friendly.
The toilet is one of the most important things in your bathroom and one of the easiest things to improve. A coloured Bemis toilet seat will stand out, making trips to the bathroom easier! These toilet seats can be ordered from your local Bunnings store and paid for with our voucher. If your toilet seat already stands out, you could purchase a sensor light, a bright colour towel rack or hand rails to start your dementia friendly bathroom project.
Research shows that a well-designed environment for dementia can reduce confusion and disorientation and enable people living with dementia to live more independently with dignity.
As people progress with their dementia they may be unable to perceive colour contrast or the 3D dimension of our world. Vivid colours can fade and lighter colours become harder to distinguish. This can present challenges when walking and moving around in the world e.g. being unable to distinguish a white toilet seat on a white pedestal on white tiles.
To discuss how to make your bathroom dementia friendly and receive a Bunnings voucher please call our friendly staff on 1800 588 699.
They will ask you a few simple questions about your needs and determine if a dementia friendly toilet seat is right for you.
There are many low cost changes that you can make around your home to make it dementia friendly. For more information on how to make the rest of your home dementia friendly you can:
